Under the motto “Code. Create. Care”, 60 participants developed ideas for the future of health and care at this year’s HealthHack of the Hannover Braunschweig Göttingen Wolfsburg metropolitan region. At the idea pitch Dominik Schulz presented the idea of voice-based documentation that is meant to relieve nursing staff.

Together with the medical student from the University of Lübeck, Ludwig Link (Medizinische Hochschule Hannover) and Ramakrishnan Sankara (DB E.C.O. Group) they formed Team AVAR (Actual Voice Augmented Reality) and finished the two-day competition in second place, which comes with 500 euros of funding.

The AVAR prototype automatically documents the ward-round conversation, including vital signs and lab results. A Microsoft Azure speech-to-text service transcribes the conversation; an AI then creates the documentation according to care guidelines and proposes concrete measures for doctors and nurses, with links to further information.
